Panarea, the smallest and most glamorous of Sicily's Aeolian Islands, glows in the last light of evening as the sea begins to take on the deepening blue of dusk. Sailboats drift at anchor below the island's whitewashed village, now flushed gold and pink, with the volcanic silhouettes of Stromboli and its sister islets darkening into the haze on the horizon.
